I purchased an inexpensive set of sheet metal valve covers at one of the races, welded in the

fitting / bungs / oil fill cap that I needed and then polished the heck out them!  Don't know how

long they'll stay that purty - we'll see.  I'm about to get all my accessories hooked up, be ready

to start soon!

I decided to 'freshen up' the motor before putting it back.  New bearings, gaskets and look things

over real good.  Had a rear main seal leak, you can see the groove wore in the crank and my fix -

a Speedi-Sleeve.  Made a tool to remove the pilot bearing by turning down a bolt to fit thru the

bearing snugly, then pumping the end of the crank full of grease, tapping the bolt in hydraulically

pushed the bearing out.  Ford windage tray & Moroso pickup.  Moroso pan, ARP head studs &

Fluidamper.  Twisted wedge heads & valve train going on.  Weiand Stealth dual plane intake &

motorplate.  Steel flywheel, Ram clutch & bellhousing.  Finally back in the truck.

I've started collecting parts for the next motor...

The stock rubber motor mounts are showing signs of dry rotting, so I decided another upgrade

was in order - a motor plate.   I have purchased a CSR electric water pump and a Moroso

vacuum pump.  The vacuum pump needs to be under driven and I have a 6" pulley on the

crank, so I purchased this 7.5" pulley from GZ Motorsports.  This pulley bolts right on to the

Moroso pump and will allow me  to run everything on the one serpentine belt which is important

as I don't have a lot of room between the radiator and motor.

I've got the vacuum pump & belt tensioner ('85' Mustang part) mounted, belt installed and test run - OK.

I had to make several custom brackets (I'll post pics of them soon) that have been temporarily

'spacered' with stacks of washers.  I purchased some solid aluminum rod that I will make accurate,

custom spacers with - and use all stainless allen head  bolts.  (Yes I'm going to repaint the alternator)

I built the 5.0 from scratch several years ago.  It's a good 'starter' motor, but I have

plans for something a little wilder in the future.  Motor currently includes the following:

New 5.0 block from Summit
Trick Flow 'Twisted Wedge' aluminum heads, box stock
Weiand 'Stealth' dual plane intake
Holley 600 cfm carb
Keith Black pistons
Ford Motorsports  X303 hydraulic roller cam
Ford Motorsports aluminum roller rocker arms
Moroso 7 quart rear sump Mustang oil pan
Ford Motorsports windage tray & oil pump
MSD billet distributor and 6AL ignition
Fluidamper Harmonic Balancer
Ford Motorsports Steel Flywheel

When I originally installed this motor, I used an L&L bracket kit.  This kit allowed

installation of all the power accessories with a single belt tucked close to the motor

for radiatior clearance in the Ranger.  When I removed the AC & power steering,

I installed a March Performance pulley/bracket kit.
